Every academic session, University de Lausanne (also the University of Lausanne or UNIL) awards scholarship grants to applicants who hold a bachelor degree from foreign universities and boast of an excellent result. This scholarship, numbering around 10 yearly, is exclusive to foreign students applying to any of the Master programmes offered at UNIL and it lasts throughout the statutory duration, typically one to two years.

Winners of this scholarship are paid CHF 1,600 every month for 10 consecutive months out of 12, usually starting from 15th of September to 15th of July. The payment process of the grant lasts from 1 and a half years to two years, depending on the duration of the student’s desired programme. Payment of this grant can however be discontinued if the student fails definitely in the first year.

How to Apply for UNIL Masters Grants.

Applying for the Masters grant in University of Lausanne is quite straightforward as it involves the same process as applying for admission into the program. Application is done online, and students must upload their completed application form in PDF format. Any application not completed, or sent via email will not be considered.

When you submit an application for the UNIL masters scholarship, you do not need to still apply for admission into your chosen master programme because your application for the scholarship already serves the same purpose. Bear in mind that applications for the next academic session that begins in 2024 will end on November 1st.

Who Is Eligible For UNIL Master’s Grants for Foreign Students?

There are several criteria for a student to be eligible for the UNIL Master grant. If you will like to know whether you are qualified to apply for UNIL masters scholarship or not, have a look at the following:

  • Applicants must have finished a first degree (typically Bachelor degree) at a recognized foreign university. If it is not a bachelor degree, it should at least be almost equivalent to a standard Swiss university bachelor degree. This degree must have been obtained before commencement of study at UNIL.
  • Applicants who have distinguished themselves in their academic endeavor, and have proved to be high fliers in their chosen field are first in line to be favorites for this scholarship. Nothing wins you a scholarship faster than excellent grades.
  • Candidates must be proficient in English language or French, depending on the language with which your desired programme is being taught. Candidates are expected to have at least a C1 in French or English.
  • Applicants must not be previously registered at the University of Lausanne.
  • Paid administrative fees amounting to CHF 200.

To win the Master grant at University of Lausanne, Switzerland, you have to be an international student applying for any of the Masters programmes that UNIL offers. You can get a scholarship grant from when you apply to all offerable Master programmes except the following:

  • Master from the School of Medicine
  • Master of Law. Exceptions
  • Master of Science in Sustainable Management & Technology
  • Master of Science in Physical Education and Sport Didactics
  • Master in Sciences and Practices of Education.
  • Master of Science in Health Sciences
  • for Masters Scholarships : Specialisms “International and Comparative Law”, “Legal Theory” and “International Tax Law and Policy”
  • All MASs (3rd cycle programmes, Further Education programmes).
