The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto is a program sponsored by Mastercard Foundation, a private foundation in Toronto, Canada. The Mastercard Foundation aims to provide learning opportunities to students from struggling backgrounds to learn and prosper in their careers. The foundation works closely with a network of educational institutions and NGOs globally to promote financial inclusion and development amongst people in impoverished communities.

With its target being scholars from sub-saharan Africa, The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto (U of T) has made provision for beneficiaries of the award program to enjoy a full ride scholarship to Canada’s premier institution of higher learning and discovery.

Areas Of Study

The vision of the MasterCard Foundation scholars program is to provide young citizens of sub-saharan African countries with the capacity to augment the situation of healthcare in their respective home countries. For this reason, the scholarship is available only for the following course studies in the coming 2024/2025 academic session at the University of Toronto:

  • Master of Engineering (Biomedical)
  • Master of Financial Insurance
  • Master of Health Administration
  • Master of Health Informatics
  • Master of Occupational and Environmental Health
  • Master of Social and Behavioural Health Sciences

Through the aid of the scholarship program in these courses, young Africans in the healthcare sector will be equipped with necessary tools with which to expand their networks globally, evolve their general capacity, and also get actively involved in Africa’s diverse healthcare ecosystems.

How To Apply For The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at University of Toronto

Each Masters program has its own admission requirements, prospective applicants are advised to first consult the links in the programs listed above to get familiar with their requirements before commencing application into the programs.

If your academic qualifications satisfies the requirements for your chosen programme, please go ahead to follow these application process:

  1. First of all sign up for one out of the four scholarship information sessions that will be holding from October through to November as follows-
  • Monday October 16th, 2023, at 2:00 pm EST Register
  • Tuesday October 31st, 2023, at 11:00 am EST – Register
  • Tuesday November 7th, 2023, at 9:00am EDT Register
  • Friday November 10th, 2023, at 12:00pm EDTRegister

  1. Fill out and submit the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship form. The deadline to do this is Wednesday, November the 15th, 2023.
  2. If your application is approved by the Scholarship Admission Committee, you will receive an email early in December which will direct you to the next stage of application.
  3. Go to the School of Graduate Studies website, begin direct application to your chosen programme.

Who is Eligible To Apply?

  • Citizens of a Sub-saharan African nation, and reside there.
  • Graduates from one and of the affiliated institutions (within the last 5 years), who have not previously commenced graduate study
  • Going Africans who have exhibited exceptional brilliance in their academics
  • Meets the requirements for any of the endorsed graduate courses.
  • People who are committed to fostering economic progression in Africa and intend to return home after completion of their studies.
